We’re building an industry-leading craft malt house
in the middle of Pacific Northwest grain paradise

Since early 2023, Mainstem and the Port of Columbia have been working methodically toward developing a regional craft malt house in southeast Washington State. Our goal is to establish the malting facility as an anchor business for a broader cluster of artisan grain enterprises, such as a bakery, pasta mill, brewery, distillery, and bulk foods supplier. We envision a future where shared resources, supply chains, distribution, and consumer engagement opportunities help lift all involved.

The project is well underway. An extensive feasibility study was completed in early 2024, and strong support has poured in from the Port of Columbia, the State of Washington, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and a lender focused on funding regenerative agricultural projects. We’ve so far secured nearly $6.5 million in public funding, with millions more in private and public funding expected in 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates on facility design, and reach out to learn how you can get involved.
